The minimum age for unaccompanied minors in Avianca Airlines to travel alone is 5 to 11 years of age for both domestic and international flights. The airline offers hassle-free travel for kids from the time they arrive at the airport to landing on the destination airport. However, there are certain guidelines that parents and guardians have to follow. 

• Parents or guardians must carry necessary documents including unaccompanied minor form, passport and visa of the minor and healthy certificate. 
• Unaccompanied Minors are not allowed to check-in online and must check-in at the airport counter. 
• At the Avianca check-in counter, the airline will screen your travel documents before check-in. 
• Avianca Airlines also offers free access to the boarding lounge to the Avianca Airline unaccompanied minors. 
• During boarding, the unaccompanied minor will be escorted to the flight before other passengers as the unaccompanied minors are entitled for special treatment. 
• Unaccompanied minors with checked baggage will be escorted by Avianca staff to the conveyor belt to drop and collect baggage. 

Rules for Avianca Unaccompanied Minor

• Every flight is only permitted to a certain number of minors. That’s why it is important to receive confirmation after booking the flight. 
• The unaccompanied minor service fee is charged per child on each route and in both Business and Economy class as per Avianca Airlines unaccompanied minor policy. 
• Those who want to book the flight at a discount rate, have to pay a fee at the airport sales office or by contacting Avianca customer support. 
• The unaccompanied minor service is only applicable for flights operated by Avinaca, Avianca Costa Rica. Avianca Peru and Avianca Ecuador. 
• The unaccompanied minor service does not apply to connecting flights and codeshare flights. 

Restrictions from Minors Travelling Alone 

The airline also has certain restrictions on unaccompanied minor policy to ensure the safety and comfort of the child. 

• Minors having any chronic sickness, a physical or mental condition are not eligible to travel alone without a legal parent or guardian. 
• As per Avianca policy on unaccompanied minors, children under the age of 5 years are not allowed to travel without any legal guardian and parent. 
• In case of any misinformation, the unaccompanied minor will be denied boarding. 
• Unaccompanied minors are allowed to travel in case they are carrying more checked baggage than allowed. 
• Minors are not allowed to travel with pets, however, pets are allowed in case of emotional assistance.
• A minor between the age of 12 to 17 cannot accompany another minor aged below the age of 12. 

Required Documents for Unaccompanied Minor 

• Children of 5 to 13 years or over must carry a passport, a photo identification or visa while travelling as per the Avianca Airlines policy on unaccompanied minors. 
• The documents must be presented 3 hours in advance of the scheduled flight. 
• Parents or guardians are requested to present unaccompanied minor forms at the airport at the time of check-in. 
• As per airline’s Unaccompanied Minor policy, parents or guardians must submit a notarized document that includes the minor’s journey specific mode of transportation, the place of travel, and the date of travel.

Avianca unaccompanied minor fee is applicable to each journey for each unaccompanied minor. The service of unaccompanied minors are applied depending upon the routes and destinations of the flight and additional services reserved by the parent or legal guardian.
