KLM Unaccompanied Minor Guidelines 

The airline has certain guidelines for unaccompanied minors to ensure a safe and smooth experience for the child. As per KLM Airline Unaccompanied Minor service policy, children between the age of 5 to 14 must travel with unaccompanied minor service or someone who is at least 18 years old. 

• As per KLM Unaccompanied minor policy, minors are only eligible for direct flights operated by KLM. 
• Unaccompanied minor service is not mandatory for children between the age of 15-17. 
• The unaccompanied minor is non refundable even if the ticket is cancelled. 
• All required information at the time of booking should be accurate otherwise the airline has the complete right to cancel the booking for wrong information. 
• Parents or legal guardians who would be dropping the child must carry their photo ID proof and valid government proof. 
• KLM Policy on Unaccompanied minors are not allowed to check-in online and thus, they must check-in at the airport counter. 
• Unaccompanied minors and their guardians are advised to reach at the airport at least 3-4 hours before the flight. 
• At the time of check-in, it is essential for the parents or legal guardians to produce a proof of age such as a birth certificate or passport for validation. 
• If parents or legal guardians choose to cancel the flight, then they can rebook. 
•  One can only book unaccompanied minors through either KLM customer care or through the travel agent. 

Guidelines for Children travelling alone on KLM flight

It is imperative for guardians to fill the unaccompanied minor consent form for minors before travelling. Also, as per KLM unaccompanied minor policy, parents are also advised to fill out the Handling Advice Form online through login into the website. Additionally, parents also have to provide 4 copies of the Handling Advice form at the airport check-in desk before the scheduled departure of flight. 

During Departure of the Flight

• As per KLM unaccompanied minor policy, unaccompanied minors along with their parents must reach the airport at least 3 hours before the flight takes off. 
• Parents are advised to remain at the airport for 15-20 minutes after take off to ensure that there is no reroute of the flight. 
• In case of cancellation or delay, KLM Airlines will inform the legal guardian or parent through email, message and call as mentioned in KLM Airline unaccompanied minor. 
• During departure, parents and legal guardians accompanying the child at the airport must bring legitimate forms of identification for yourself and your child. 
• Also, as per airline’s unaccompanied minor policy, parents must submit 4 completed and signed and printed copies of the Child Handling Advice form that specifies about the person dropping and picking the child from the airport. 
• The handling form can be downloaded or filled out directly from the “My Trip” tab available on the website.

During the Journey 

• KLM ensures to offer best assistance and comfort to your child throughout the journey. KLM personnel will escort the child to its seat in the flight before take off according to unaccompanied minor KLM Airlines. Also, the flight crew will ensure to take care of the minor throughout  the journey.
• If the itinerary consists of a lengthy layover, the minor will get complimentary access to the lounge. 

Upon Arrival at the Destination

• Upon arrival, the KLM personnel will escort the child through the custom and baggage converter to pick up luggage. 
• Lastly, the personnel will escort the child to the arrival area to meet the person who has been designated to pick them up. 
• The person picking up the child must ensure to present a valid photo ID that matches with the details mentioned on the unaccompanied minor KLM form. 

Documents Required for Unaccompanied Minor  

As per KLM Unaccompanied minor policy, parents or legal guardians must provide necessary documents at the check-in counter. After reaching the airport, head to the KLM check-in counter to complete the boarding process and collect the boarding pass. The KLM staff at the counter will provide the minors with a batch to wear in-flight. The airline staff will collect all the documents and ID to make a folder that can be used at the time of travel. Furthermore, the accompanying parents must provide additional documents such as: 

• Photo ID proof such as passport at the check-in counter. 
• Legal guardians or parents must provide contact numbers of the person dropping and picking up the minors at the airport as per KLM Airlines unaccompanied minor policy. 
• Also, parents must provide at least 4 print outs of the unaccompanied minor form. 

KLM Service fees for Unaccompanied Minors  

To book a KLM flight, one must purchase the adult ticket fare and pay the unaccompanied minor fee later. The unaccompanied minor service cost may range between $150 to $200 for direct flights. In case of connecting flights, the const can go up to $250 to $350. However, the unaccompanied minor fees also depend on the destinations.

How to Book KLM Unaccompanied Minor Service 

There are several methods to book the KLM flight. As mentioned in KLM Airlines Unaccompanied minor policy, parents can either book the flight through the online website or contact the customer support of the airline. 

One must reserve the service at least 24 hours in advance before departure. 

Online Method – Website

To book the flight for unaccompanied minors through the airline’s website. 

• Visit the official KLM website. 
• Ensure to change the number of adults to 0 from the default setting of 1 and add the number of children travelling as unaccompanied minors. 
• Confirm the booking and at the checkout pay the KLM unaccompanied minor fee with the airfare. 
• After you confirm the booking, the parent will be asked to fill the KLM unaccompanied minor service form and Handling advice form. 
• At the airport, submit the forms at the check-in counter to complete the check-in process and receive the boarding pass.
