  • Every passenger is allowed only one piece of personal item bag with maximum dimension limit of 45 x 35 x 20 cm, including wheels and handles. These bags will include purses, laptop bags, handbags, etc.
  • If you’re taking a carry-on bag, you will have to pay a charge for the same. The maximum dimensions for this bag must not exceed 56 x 46 x 25 cm. If in any case the size of carry-on exceeds, it will have to be checked and you will have to pay the applicable charges.
  • An item of baggage may occupy a seat, subject to applicable regulations, provided the guest accompanies the property, the item meets specified dimensions, the item can be properly secured by the seat belt, reservations are made in advance, and the applicable fare is paid.
  • As per Spirit Airlines policy baggage, items accepted as seat baggage cannot block placards or signs. Animals are NOT accepted as seat baggage.

Checked Baggage Allowance 

To avoid the unnecessary charges and disapproval of your baggage, it’s best that you comply with Spirit Airlines checked baggage policy. Here are some rules explaining the guidelines: 

  • Each passenger is allowed to take checked baggage, provided that they pay the applicable charges for it. 
  • The maximum dimension of your bag must not exceed 158 cm (including handles and wheels). The maximum weight must also not exceed the limit of 40 lbs. 
  • According to Spirti Airlines baggage weight policy, any bag that exceeds these dimensions or weight limit is considered oversized/overweight and has a corresponding charge.

Spirit Airlines Baggage Policy for Infants 

  • Spirit Airlines baggage policy says that from 7 days old until his / her second birthday, a child is considered a lap child and does not need a paid seat; however, guests may opt to buy a seat for the infant if they prefer.
  • Per federal regulations, once a child has their second birthday, they are no longer considered a lap child and a seat must be purchased in order for them to travel. If a child has their second birthday between the outbound and return flight, a seat will need to be purchased for the return flight.
  • Spirit Airlines reserves the right to request documented proof of age for any traveler 2 years old or younger. It’s best that you stay prepared to provide documentation (birth certificate, passport, etc.) upon request.
  • As long as your infant is over 7 days old and under 2 years old and is traveling with someone who is at least 15 years old, you are not required to purchase a seat for them and can carry them in your lap free of charge.
  • Only one lap child is allowed per guest 15 years of age or older.
  • An infant, age 7 days or less or an infant requiring an incubator or other life-support system, cannot be accepted for travel and will be denied boarding.
  • Lap children and children in car seats are not allowed to be in the emergency exit rows or in the row in front or behind the emergency exit row.
  • Lap children and children in car seats are not permitted to occupy a seat equipped with an inflatable seatbelt.
  • Taxes and fees may apply for the infant, depending on destination.
  • You can add a lap child while booking online or through our other reservation channels.

Guidelines for carriage of car seat and stroller 

  • In accordance with Spirit Airlines baggage policy, the airline will check one stroller and one car seat per child for no extra cost at the ticket counter.
  • If you are traveling with two children, you are more than welcome to check a double stroller instead. You may also check these items at the gate. We’ll have them waiting for you in your arrival city when you get off the aircraft.
  • You’re allowed to bring an FAA-approved child restraint system (car seat) or an FAA-approved Child Harness Device (CARES) onboard as long as a separate seat has been purchased for the child. 

Spirit Airlines Pet Policy

  • As per Spirit Airlines baggage policy, the airline allows carriage of domestic dogs, cats, birds, and rabbits in the passenger cabin. Birds that are not considered household birds include farm poultry, waterfowl, game bird, birds of prey, and flightless birds.
  • Pet carriage is subject to availability, hence you’re advised to make a reservation in advance by calling the customer support. 
  • Guests traveling with pets will need to check-in at the ticket counter. At this time, curbside or self-service check-in is not allowed. Please allow extra time beyond normal check-in guidelines.
  • A charge of USD 125 per pet container, per way will be levied, irrespective of the fare type. Spirit Airlines does not transport pets in Cargo at any time. 
  • In accordance with Spirit Airlines baggage policy, pets are not accepted on international flights, except in the case of service animals. 
  • Spirit Airlines does not require a health certificate for pets traveling with guests in the aircraft cabin, except for Guests traveling to USVI.
  • A maximum of 2 pets per container is permitted, but only one container per guest is allowed.
  • Animals must be able to stand upright and move about comfortably in the container. Animals must remain in the carrier for the duration of the flight.
  • The pet should be at least eight (8) weeks old and fully weaned. The combined weight of the pet and carrier may not exceed 40 lbs.
