It is a low-cost multi-national airline that is headquartered in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It is the largest airline in terms of destinations and fleet size in Malaysia. It was founded on December 20, 1993. AirAsia (AK) operates both international and domestic flights that span over 25 countries and more than 165 destinations. Air Asia airlines has its head office and registered office at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.  It has a sister airline called AirAsiaX that focuses on long-haul flights.

Cancellation Policy

The AirAsia cancellation policy is simple and effective aiming to minimise confusion. It is important to keep certain things in mind to make the experience easier. 

  • If the cancelled flight from/to India or U.S.A. departs at least 7 days later and is cancelled within 24 hours of purchase. 
  • If the Air Asia flights are altogether cancelled by the airline company. 
  • If the flight departing/landing at the original destination is rescheduled at least 3 hours before/after the original flight by AirAsia.
  • A duplicate booking is made by a passenger on the same flight with the same guests on the same date. 
  • If a passenger has been charged twice for the same flight booking AirAsia(AK)
  • AirAsia denies boarding to a passenger due to overbooking. 
  • Fare conditions of the passenger permit it, i.e., tickets are refundable ones. 

Refund Policy

Refunds are permissible if certain conditions are met.

  • If a flight is cancelled at least 60 days before departure. 
  • Your flight is cancelled by the airline itself.
  • If the flight has a minimum 2 hour delay. 
  • A passenger’s flight has been rescheduled but the new one does not suit them.  
  • If a passenger is forced to cancel a flight due to jury duty, death, serious illness, etc. However, there must be sufficient documentary evidence and the airline company accepts it. 

Baggage Policy

The baggage policy of AirAsia(AK) varies depending on a person’s travel class. Each passenger is allowed one bag and one personal item like briefcase or purse.

Web Check-in

  • AirAsia(AK) offers you an option of online check in which helps one beat last minute chaos at the airport. 
  • This option allows travellers to check in online 7 days to 4 hours before the flight departs. 
  • It is recommended that boarding passes are printed out after web check-ins. 

  Baggage Check-in

  • One must complete self check-in first and then get their baggage checked at the counter. AirAsia also has options for self-baggage drop as well in certain places. 
  • This must be done no earlier than 2 hours and no later than 45 minutes before departure for domestic flights. As for international flights no earlier than 3 hours and no later than 1 hour before departure.  

In-flight Entertainment

    Those up to 27 weeks pregnant can fly with the airline but they must sign the Limited Liability Statement. Those that are 28-34 weeks pregnant must submit a doctor’s medical certificate that confirms the duration of pregnancy and also sign the Limited Liability Statement.

  • Are pets allowed in AirAsia?

    The airline does not allow animals to fly in their cabins unless they’re service dogs that are medically certified and this applies only on certain AirAsia India and AirAsia Japan.
