About Surinam Airways Baggage Policy

Travelling with overweight and oversized bags can get pricey at the airport. That’s why it is better to familiarise yourself with the baggage policy of the airline. Before travelling with Surinam Airways, you should check out Surinam Baggage policy to avoid packing extra or bringing prohibited items that will cost you additional charges. 

Founded in 1953, Surinam Airways, initially called by its Dutch name : Luchtvaart Maatschappij, is the official flag carrier of Suriname. The airline is based in Paramaribo and operates its long and short haul flights from its hub at Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport. Surinam Airways was founded by private entrepreneurs from a Dutch company in 1953. However, now it is wholly owned by the Government of Suriname. The airline has a very compact list of 10 destinations and 3 aircrafts. 

Surinam Baggage Allowance Guidelines 

Baggage Allowance ensures that travellers carry appropriate luggage as per size and weight depending on their travel destination. The Surinam Airways baggage allowance depends on the fare class purchased by the customer. Economy Class in Surinam Airlines are allowed to carry 2 pieces of checked baggage with a maximum weight of 32 kg along with a total dimension of 158 cm (62 inches). 

Carry-on Baggage Allowance 

All passengers travelling in Surinam Airways can carry one piece of carry-on baggage depending on their routes and destinations. For adults and children older than two years are allowed to carry additional baggage after checked baggage , however the quantity and size may vary. 

• On flights to Paramaribo and Amsterdam, passengers can carry one piece of luggage which should not weigh more than 10 kg with size not more than 115 cm as per Surinam Baggage limit. 
• On regional flights, passengers can travel with one piece of baggage with weight not more than 10 kg and total dimension of 115 cm. 
• In addition to bags, the airline also allows passengers to carry overcoats, walking sticks, orthopaedic equipment, baby food for use on board and foldable strollers or wheelchairs without any extra cost. 

Checked Baggage Allowance   

Surinam baggage allowance for checked baggage was improved in October, 2023 which applies to the regional and Mid-Atlantic flights. The new baggage rules are displayed on the new tickets issued after October, 2023. The checked baggage allowance in Surinam depends on the cabin class as well as destination as per Surinam Airways baggage policy.

Excess Baggage Allowance 

Surinam offers a limited baggage allowance with equally limited size and restrictions. If customers don’t want to pay additional penalty or charges then they should ensure to follow the Surinam Airways baggage allowance. However, in case of overweight or oversized baggage, passengers will have to pay a certain extra amount at the baggage counter. Excess baggage charges are strictly applicable for a one way-flight. 

• Passengers travelling in Economy class can carry 1 piece of baggage. However, for excess baggage, passengers are allowed to carry 4 extra pieces of checked baggage.
• Also passengers travelling in Economy class with 2 pieces of checked baggage, can carry 3 extra checked baggage on board. 
• Items in excess of 32 kg will not be accepted as baggage. 

Special Baggage 

The airline allows passengers to take special baggage allowance such as sports equipment, musical instruments and a pet. Certain types of sports equipment are subject to standard Surinam baggage limit fee. The maximum baggage allowance for economy class is one piece of 23 kg. 

However, there are certain baggage fees that are associated with special baggage.

Surinam Pet Allowance 

Travelling with pets is quite tough but not with Surinam Airlines. The airline offers a flexible pet baggage allowance to travellers. As per Surinam Airways Baggage policy, the airline only allows dogs and cats as pets in Suriname Airways. The airline also allows 5 pet kennels per flight depending on the aircraft type. Travellers must ensure to follow the prescribed combined weight of the pet and kennel and must not exceed beyond 55 kg. 

• The size of the kennel must not exceed the overall dimension of 43 x 31 x 20 cm with maximum weight of 8 kg. 
• As for the pet fees, if the pet is travelling on regional flights then the cost of pet travelling would be $100 per flight per passenger. For mid-atlantic flights, the applicable price for pets is the same as regional flights i.e $100. 
• As per Surinam Airways Baggage allowance, if you carry your pet as checked baggage, then the linear dimension of the kennel should be above 157 cm but not more than 406 cm while the weight should not exceed more than 55 kg.
