Different Lufthansa Check In Options

Lufthansa’s first priority is providing exceptional services to its passengers, that’s why it offers several check-in Lufthansa options including Automated Check-In, Online / Web Check-In, Mobile Check-In, Late-night Check-In, Kiosk Check-In and Airport Check-In. Read below to know about each check-in procedure : 

Automated Check-In for Lufthansa Flights in Germany and Europe

  • Lufthansa’s automated check-in service automatically registers you and sends your boarding pass via text message or email directly to your mobile phone, approximately 23 hours before your flight’s departure.
  • If you are a Travel ID profile User or a Miles & More customer, the automated check-in is already enabled for you on flights within the Schengen Area and for flights that are booked up to 24 hours before the departure. In this case, the airline will send your boarding pass 23 hours before the flight’s departure on your registered email address or phone number. 
  • All the self-services are available for you which includes seat change, home-printed bag tag, check-in cancellation, addition of frequent flyer card or  travel companions. 
  • Also, you can deactivate automated check-in options in your customer profile whenever you want. 

Note : The automated check-in is not available for flights that do not operate fully in the Schengen area.

Lufthansa Online / Web Check-In

  • Lufthansa web check in starts 30 hours before the flight’s departure and closes from 3 hours to 60 minutes before the scheduled departure, depending on the departure airport and travel class. 
  • You have to visit the official website of Lufthansa and click on ‘Check-In’. (To login from your Lufthansa ID or Miles & More account, click on ‘Login for check-in’ and follow the instructions mentioned on screen to complete the check-in process). 
  • Then enter your name, surname, reservation code or ticket number and click on ‘Check-In’ button. 
  • While checking-in, you can select your desired seat, print out your boarding pass or send it to your mobile device. 

Non-eligible Passengers for online check-in services

Passengers with the following type of bookings are not eligible for Lufthansa check in online and they must complete the check-in process at the airport counter. 

  • Unaccompanied minor.
  • Passengers who require special assistance. 
  • Passengers travelling on age-qualifying fares.
  • Passengers departing from Albania, Cyprus, Bosnia, Croatia, Rijeka, Bulgaria, Montenegro.

Lufthansa Mobile Check-In

  • You can check-in for your flights using the Lufthansa mobile app. You have to download the app from the Apple Store or Google Play Store, log in, enter your flight details and confirm ‘Check-In’. Once the online check-in is completed, you will receive your e-boarding pass. 
  • Lufthansa mobile app allows you to make changes or cancel your flight, check / share your flight status, make/cancel reservations for your car and get access to useful airport information.

Lufthansa E-Boarding Pass

  • After completing the Lufthansa online check in, you will receive your mobile boarding pass on registered email or as an SMS link on your smartphone. After receiving it, you can manage it offline in the Lufthansa app, Google play or Wallet.
  • Even though the mobile boarding pass is available for most of the destinations, it is possible that it is not available for some specific destinations because of official regulations. In such cases, you will receive a check-in confirmation and your boarding pass will be handed over to you at the airport counter. 
  • If you face any problem while retrieving your mobile boarding pass, you can get your boarding pass from a Lufthansa check in kiosk machine or at the check-in desk at the airport. 
  • In addition, if you are travelling with a handbag only, go directly to the boarding gate after passing the security checks. If you are carrying a checked bag, you have to drop your bag at a Lufthansa baggage drop-off counter/baggage drop-off kiosk and go to the gate after security checks.

Non – eligible Passengers for Lufthansa mobile check-in services 

 Non – eligible passengers for Lufthansa mobile app check-in services are : 

  • Unaccompanied minor.
  • Passengers who require special assistance. 
  • Passengers travelling on age-qualifying fares.
  • Passengers departing from Albania, Cyprus, Bosnia, Croatia, Rijeka, Bulgaria, Montenegro.

Lufthansa Late-Night Check-In

  • Late-Night check in Lufthansa Airline service is available in various airports. It opens the night before your flight but no earlier than 23 hours before your flight’s departure. If you utilise this service, you can then proceed directly to your flight the next day.
  • The Late-Night Check-In permits you to choose seats, collect your boarding pass and check-in your bag at the drop-off or check-in counter. 

Late-Night Check-In Service is not available for : 

  • Passengers travelling in Economy Class. (They must check-in for their flights online through Lufthansa’s website or mobile app).
  • Flights departing from the United States, Canada and Mexico. 
  • Passengers travelling with pets. 

Lufthansa Kiosk Check-In 

In order to check-in for Lufthansa flights through self-service kiosks, you must possess your boarding pass (issued on your smartphone, online, or at a check-in machine) and you must have your valid travel documents.

Non-eligible Passengers for Lufthansa Kiosk Check-In Services

  • Passengers who require special assistance. 
  • Minors travelling alone.
  • Passengers travelling with pets.
