Before you pack your bags for your next adventure, it is crucial to learn about Qatar Airways baggage policy, so that you don’t overpack or bring something, which the airline doesn’t approve of. Qatar Airways Baggage Allowance Policy

Just like other major airlines, Qatar Airways too offers a flexible baggage allowance policy. Here, we will discuss the airline’s various baggage policies, which will help you determine the number and weight of baggage pieces you can carry during your journey with Qatar Airways.

  • The baggage allowance may vary according to route and cabin class.
  • Carry-on baggage allowance may differ if the passenger is traveling with an infant or passengers traveling with pets.
  • All baggage exceeding the maximum size and weight limitation will be subject to space availability in the aircraft. The airline will charge additional baggage fees for extra luggage.
  • Excess carry-on baggage are subject to being checked and charged as additional baggage.

Qatar Airways Carry-on Baggage Allowance

Qatar Airways allows all its passengers to bring at least one piece of hand bag and a personal item onboard. However, in some selected classes, passengers are allowed to bring more than one hand luggage. Read the points below to understand Qatar Airways’ cabin baggage policies:

  • First Class and Business Class passengers are allowed to carry two pieces of hand baggage on board. However, the total weight should not exceed 33 lbs.
  • Economy Class passengers are allowed to carry only one piece of baggage, and the weight should not exceed more than 15 lbs.
  • For tickets issued in Brazil, Economy Class passengers on flights to/from Brazil can carry one piece of baggage, which should not weigh more than 22 lbs.
  • The maximum dimension of each piece of hand baggage must not exceed 50 × 37 × 25 cm.
  • Laptops and laptop bags must fit within your hand baggage allowance.
  • In addition to hand baggage allowance, passengers are allowed to personal items, such as lady’s hand bag or one small briefcase, one coat, cape, or blanket, one umbrella, one pair of crutches or walking stick, one small camera or binoculars, limited reading material, carrying basket for infant, duty-free items purchased on the day of your departure.

Liquids and Gels in Hand Baggage

  • Qatar Airways allows its passengers to carry safe liquids, gels, pastes, and aerosols in containers up to 100 ml in your hand baggage. Containers larger than 100 ml are not allowed.
  • The container must be carried in a transparent, resealable quart or liter size bag, which must be within 20 × 20 cm.
  • There are no restrictions on baby food and medication. However, for medication, you may need to present a prescription.

Security Check-in for Personal Electronic Devices on UK and US-Bound Flight

Passengers, holding personal electronic devices and departing or transiting from Hamad International Airport on a UK and USA-bound Qatar Airways flight, must adhere to the following guidelines:

UK-Bound Flights

  • If the security person at the airport asks you to turn on your personal devices, including tablets, e-books, and laptops, during the security screening conducted at the boarding gate.
  • Ensure your electronic devices have sufficient power to be switched on to demonstrate its functionality.
  • Devices without any power will be placed in a secure location in the aircraft and will be delivered to you after arrival at the final destination.
  • If more than six personal devices are already secured, then you must check-in your device into your hand baggage, which will be placed in the aircraft hold.
  • If you are unable to check-in your hand baggage with the device or you do not have a hand baggage, then you need to deposit your item with Lost & Found. After your return, you need to make a claim on the airline’s website and collect the item from the airport.

USA-Bound Flights

  • All personal devices carried on board on all USA-bound flights from Doha, are subject to enhanced security screening.
  • Ensure your electronic devices have sufficient power to be switched on to demonstrate its functionality.
  • Pack all your electronic devices, which you do not intend to use in-flight, into your check-in baggage.

Checked Baggage Allowance

There is no limit on the number of pieces that can be checked in as long as it does not exceed the airline’s baggage allowance. However, limitations may apply based on aircraft carrying capacity.

In addition, baggage allowance depends on the flight and booking class. You can find the number of pieces you are allowed to carry during your journey with Qatar Airways on your ticket. However, the standard checked in baggage allowance are as follows:

  • The length + width + height should not exceed 158 cm (by piece) and 300 cm (by weight).
  • A single piece of check-in baggage must not weigh more than 70 lbs.
  • You may have to pay overweight or oversize baggage fees, if your check-in baggage doesn’t meet the airline’s restricted dimensions and weight.
  • For flights departing from Dama, the maximum dimension per bag should not exceed 158 cm.
  • Round, irregular-shaped, tied with loose rope or string, wrapped in blankets or that have loose straps are not allowed.

Qatar Airways Baggage Allowance for Infants

Qatar Airways makes travel with infants hassle-free. However, the adult accompanying the child/children must follow the airline’s baggage allowance for infants. To know more about the airline’s baggage allowance policy for infants, read the points below:

  • The airline will permit infants less than 8 years old, only when the travel is required on medical grounds. The passenger must acquire a Qatar Medical Center approval using a MEDIF.
  • If the mother needs to travel on compassionate ground, then a certificate must be obtained from a certified pediatrician indicating the infant is fit to travel and necessary travel documents for the infant are available.
  • You can bring car seats for infants aged between 6 months to 36 months.
  • An adult can bring only one infant. Any additional infant (e.g. 4 infants, 3 adults) must be accompanied by an additional adult, which must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Children aged between 2 to 5 years should be accompanied by an adult over 16 years of age. Child fare will be applicable.
  • Children aged between 5 to 12 years are allowed to travel as unaccompanied minors. Adult fare will be applicable.
  • 12 years and older can travel alone on an adult fare.
  • One stroller, collapsible carrycot, pushchair per infant is allowed, free of charge.
  • Children and infants traveling on a child fare are eligible for the same baggage allowance as an adult.

Qatar Airways Baggage Allowance for Pets

Qatar Airways understands how important pets are to you. To make flying possible for you and your fur baby, the airline accepts domesticated cats, dogs, and birds as checked baggage, either on your flight or on a separate flight, depending on the international air travel regulation. In addition, if you are traveling with your pet, you are required to notify the airline at least 48 hours before the scheduled departure of the Qatar Airways flight.

Here are Qatar Airways’ guidelines for traveling with pets:

  • You must provide the airline with the pet’s health certificate, indicating the pet is fit to travel, identification, and pet passport.
  • On certain routes, service dogs are allowed in the passenger cabin free of charge. However, on other routes, service dogs will be accepted free of charge as checked baggage within the aircraft hold.
  • You can carry one falcon in the Economy class cabin , and a total of six falcons are permitted within the Economy class cabin of any one aircraft. However, country regulation may apply.
  • If the falcon is transported as checked baggage, then the traveling cost of the falcon as checked baggage will apply.
  • The pet container must be of an adequate size and be equipped with proper ventilation. The container should be large enough, so that the pet can stand up, turn around, and lie down.
  • Food and water containers must be affixed within the shipping container with provision to fill it from the outside, without having to open the door.
  • If the owner doesn’t bring food, the ground service staff in Doha will provide your pet with food and water every three to four hours, up to two hours before departure.

Qatar Airways Delayed, Lost or Damaged Baggage Policy

In the event your baggage is mishandled or you arrive at the airport without your luggage, Qatar Airways will do everything to track your luggage and bring it back to you. However, in case you do not receive your luggage, you can file a complaint.

Delayed Baggage

If you arrive at your destination without your luggage, then the airline will track your luggage within 24 hours of your arrival, and be delivered to your address. If you incur any expense due to the late baggage delivery, the airline will compensate you.

Damaged Baggage

If your luggage is damaged, you must file a report upon your arrival before leaving at the dedicated baggage desk. You also need to submit a written claim through ‘My Baggage’ within seven days upon your arrival.

Lost Baggage

If somehow you lose your bag onboard, you must contact the Qatar Airways baggage service desk at the airport immediately.

Restricted Items

To ensure the safety of its passengers, Qatar Airways in compliance with international regulations has restricted some items in its flights. These items may pose a hazard to health, safety, property or environment. Take a look at the items, which you are not allowed to bring with you onboard a Qatar Airways flight.

Ammunition and Firearms

  • You may carry ammunition, securely packed in Division 1.4S, UN 0012 or UN 0014 only, and the quantity should not exceed a gross weight of 5 kg. You can carry ammunition only for your individual use.
  • Any passenger carrying a firearm in their hold baggage in their Qatar Airways flight may do so provided that the firearm is declared to the airline at the check-in.

Batteries and low

You must switch off your battery-powered devices. You must individually protect the terminals of each spare battery to prevent short circuits.

Drones

You are allowed to carry drones with or without batteries in your hand baggage. However, the batteries must be approved by Qatar Airways. If you want to carry the drone as your checked baggage, you must remove the batteries.

E-Cigarettes

You are allowed to carry e-cigarettes, including E-cigars, E-pipes, and other personal vaporizers containing batteries in your hand baggage.

Smart Baggage

Smart baggage equipped with a non-removable lithium battery is not allowed in Qatar Airways flights.

The other restricted goods and objects, which are strictly prohibited on a Qatar Airways flights are as follows:

  • Flammable and toxic gas cylinders.
  • Fuel
  • Toxic liquids and gels
  • Dry ice or solid Carbon Dioxide
  • Internal combustion or fuel cell engines
  • Matches and cigarette lighters
  • Powder like substances exceeding 350 ml
  • Electro shock weapons and disabling devices
  • Sharp objects
  • Worker tools, such as drill machines, sows, bolt guns, blowtorches, etc.

  • Can I carry Holy water (zam zam) as checked baggage?

    Qatar Airways allows up to 5 liters of zam-zam holy water per Hajj and Umrah passengers. If the container exceeds 5 liters, then excess baggage fees will be charged.
