Delta Flight Change Policy

Delta- a major airline in the US and one of the oldest airlines in operation, has served global passengers since 1929. It understands that plans may change, and thus to save customers from paying hefty fines as a cancellation fee, Delta has introduced its flight change policy. Under this policy, customers can make specific changes and reschedule their flights.

• Delta Airline change flight allows you to change the reservation for all flights originating from North America to anywhere in the world (excluding basic economy tickets)
• You are allowed to change the date, time, and route prior to the original scheduled departure.
• No change fee will be charged if you make changes to the reservation.
• If you make the changes and the new flight costs more than the original one, you may have to pay for the fare difference.
• You can make the changes online by simply visiting ‘My Trips’ on its official website or ‘Fly Delta App’.
• If the Basic Economy Ticket falls within a Basic Economy Waiver, you can make changes in your booking, and if you want to cancel, then you can claim a refund too.

Delta Flight change for Refundable Ticket

• You can change time, date, and route of a refundable ticket, if you do it within a 24-hours risk-free period. You may have to pay for the fare difference.
• If you make the changes after the 24-hour risk-free period, then you have to pay for the fare difference.
• You must pay USD 75 if you make changes 24-hours before the scheduled departure.
• Delta airline doesn’t charge any Delta change fee for all type of tickets if the flight is departing from North America (excluding basic Economy tickets)

Delta flight Change for Non-Refundable Ticket

• You can change time, date, and route of a refundable ticket, if you do it within a 24-hours risk-free period. You may have to pay for the fare difference.
• If you make the changes after a 24-hour risk-free period, then USD 0 to USD 500 will be applicable and you have to pay for the fare difference.
• You must pay USD 75 if you make changes 24-hours before the scheduled departure.
• Customers do not have to incur any change fee if the flight is departing from North America.

Delta Flight Change for Basic Economy Ticket

• Basic Economy tickets are non-changeable and non-refundable.
• If you cancel the flight within 24-hours from the time of booking, then you are eligible to make the change by paying for the fare difference. No change fee will be applicable.
• If your Basic Economy ticket falls under Basic Economy waiver, then you are allowed to make the changes after the 24-hour risk-free period. However, you may have to incur USD 0-USD 500 as change fee and also pay for the fare difference.

Delta Flight Change for Award Ticket

Delta has eliminated change fees for Award tickets within the US, including Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands and for international travel originating in North America.

You must have to make the changes 24-hours prior to the original scheduled departure of the flight.

Delta Flight Change for Third-Party Ticket

If the ticket has been purchased from a third party, then Delta will charge an additional fee, along with the fare difference.

Steps to Change Delta Flight

• Visit https://www.delta.com/
• Click on My Trip and enter confirmation code and your first ad last name
• Select the flight you need to change
• Click on ‘Modify Flight’
• Click on ‘Start flight Change’
• Select a new flight
• Complete the process and pay for the fare difference and change fee (if applicable)
• Delta will send you a confirmation mail on your registered email

Delta Flight Change Policy for All Destinations

• North America and The Caribbean
  For tickets purchased on or after 31st August 2020, there will be no change fee to travel within the 50 states of the US, Canada, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands. However, the customer may have to pay for the fare difference. For travel between and within Canada, United States, Puerto Rico, and US Virgin Islands, your tickets must be reissued and travel completed within one year from the original date of purchase.
• Outside North America
  A change fee of USD 0-USD 500 will be applicable if you make the changes for flights outside North America, depending on the origin location and type of fare. However, customers of Delta One, Delta Premium Select, First Class, Delta Comfort+ and Main Cabin that were purchased on or after 1 May, 2021 do not have to pay any change fee if traveling outside North America. The ticket must be reissued and the travel completed within one year from the original date of purchase.
• Travel between the US, the Caribbean, and Mexico
  No change fee will be applicable if the route is between the US, the Caribbean and Mexico and the ticket has been purchased on or after 9 December, 2020. Basic Economy tickets will remain non-changeable and non-refundable if they don’t fall in Basic Economy Waiver.

Delta Flight Change Fee

Delta has waived off its change fee for all types of fares, except Basic Economy tickets. However, under some circumstances, you may have to pay USD 0-USD 500 as a change fee.

• There will be no change fee for refundable ticket holders, unless they cancel it 24-hours prior to the scheduled departure.
• Refundable ticket holders may have to pay USD 75 as Delta flight change fee if the changes are done 24-hours prior to the original scheduled departure.
• Non-refundable ticket holders must pay USD 0-USD 500 if the changes are done after the 24-hours risk-free period.
• A fee of USD 75 will be applicable, if the changes are done 24-hours prior to the original scheduled departure.

Same-day Flight Change

• Delta same day flight change allows customers to make the changes within 24-hours of the flight’s scheduled departure.
• The policy is applicable only for the passengers flying within the US, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands. Basic Economy tickets and international passengers are not entitled to change their flight on the same day.
• Delta will charge USD 75 as a same-day flight change fee.
• Same-day change is free of charge for members of Diamond, Platinum, and Gold Medallion.
• If you want to book a flight departing much before the original flight, you can make the change, and same-day standby will be complimentary for you.
• Until you have been assigned to a new seat, your original flight will remain confirmed.

Flight Upgrade

SkyMiles members are allowed to upgrade their ticket to First Class, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort+, Delta One, or claim a more comfortable experience during the flight. They can make the change any time before the scheduled departure, however, it depends on the availability of service.
