Etihad has several rules when it comes to baggage allowance. The baggage rules for Etihad Airways ensure that every passenger carries permitted size and weight. In case of any overweight or oversized baggage, passengers will have to pay the mentioned charges as per destination and exceeding limit. 

  • According to the Etihad Baggage policy, you can bring three types of baggage including checked , carry-on and extra bags. 
  • If you have connecting flights in your itinerary then you may have to check-in your baggage again at the connecting airport. 
  • If a passenger exceeds the baggage limit then certain extra baggage charges are applicable depending on destinations. 
  • Etihad Airways has separate baggage allowance for pets and infants. 
  • The airline offers separate baggage allowance for international flights that are different compared to domestic flights.

Etihad Airways Carry-on baggage 

All passengers in Etihad Airways are allowed to carry free cabin baggage with certain weight and size restrictions. Carry-on bags exceeding the limits will be considered as checked baggage or may be charged an excess baggage fee. 

Economy Class

  • All passengers travelling in Economy are allowed one cabin bag weighing up to 7 kg with dimensions bigger than 56 x 36 x 23 cm. 
  • Also, along with the carry-on baggage, passengers can carry one personal bag such as handbag, briefcase, backpack, laptop bag without any additional cost. 

Business, First and The Residence 

  • As per Etihad Airways baggage policy, passengers travelling in the elite class can carry two carry-on bags with a combined weight of up to 12 kg. Each bag cannot be bigger than 56 x 36 x 23 cm. 
  • The airline also offers passengers to carry one personal item such as laptop bag, handbag, briefcase weighing up to 5 kg with maximum dimension of 23 x 39 x 19cm. 

Infant and Children 

  • Etihad Airways allows infants from 7 days to 23 months to travel as lap babies with accompanied adults without additional charges. 
  • Passengers who have booked child fare (older than 2 years) are eligible to carry normal adult baggage allowance as mentioned in baggage policy for Etihad Airways. 
  • Customers can also carry one pushchair, carrycot, car seat as extra baggage at no extra cost. 
  • However, if a customer wishes to take a pushchair as carry-on baggage then the dimension must not exceed 115 cm and weight of 7 kg.

Checked Baggage allowance depends on the fare type and destinations  of the customers. Passengers travelling in Business, First and The Residence are allowed to carry checked baggage weighing not more than 32 kg per bag. Economy passengers are eligible to carry checked baggage weighing 23 kg with a total dimension of 158cm (70 x 50 x 38). As per Baggage policy in Etihad Airways economy, infants are allowed to carry one additional check-in bag of up to 23 kg for US/Canada destinations.

Etihad Airways Special Items in Carry-on

Passengers often have unconventional baggage along with them which does not classify as both checked or cabin baggage. Thus, the airline advises passengers under Etihad Airways Baggage policy that they must inform the airlines prior about carrying special items before boarding. According to Etihad Airways baggage policy, there are circumstances when your baggage is delayed or lost in transit thus, in such situations, the airline has a baggage claim and compensation policy that provides customers with enough compensation. For damaged, lost or delayed luggage, customers must fill Etihad delayed baggage claim and submit it to the airline staff.
