About Iberia Airlines

Flying for the first time with Iberia Airlines? Then you must learn some basics about the airline before you proceed to board the flight.  Incorporated as Iberia Líneas Aéreas de España, it is a flag carrier airline of Spain. It was founded in 1927 and is headquartered in Madrid. The airline has a primary hub at Madrid Barajas Airport. Moreover, there is an Iberia Airlines baggage policy, which allows passengers to understand the limit of luggage allowed in the cabin as well as on hold.

Baggage Allowance Policy

Here comes the guidelines explaining the major key points of Iberia Airlines baggage rules, which every passenger must adhere to. Make sure you take a thorough read of the following to avoid any chaotic scenarios.

  • Each passenger is allowed carry-on baggage and a personal item bag, depending upon their cabin class.
  • The checked baggage allowed to you, will depend upon various factors such as your flight origin, destination, travel date, ticket purchase date, and cabin class.
  • Many items which are a risk to the safety of passengers, are prohibited in the cabin as well as as checked baggage.
  • You may carry special value items as a part of declared baggage with Iberia Airlines.
  • The request to carry your pet will be subject to availability. Household pets such as dogs, cats, fish, turtles and birds are accepted to be carried in the passenger cabin.

Carry-On Baggage Allowance

  • As per Iberia Airlines baggage allowance, you can take a cabin bag and one personal accessory on board. The personal item bag may be one briefcase, handbag, small portfolio or laptop.
  • On high-occupancy flights where capacity on the aircraft is more limited, some hand luggage may be removed and placed in the hold, even if it complies with the regulations. In these cases, no fee will be charged.
  • The transport of carry-on luggage is classified as the following:

Economy / Premium Economy

1 cabin bag
56 x 40 x 25 cm / 22 lbs
1 personal accessory
40 x 30 x 15 cm

  • As stated by Iberia Airlines baggage rule, passengers may carry with their hand luggage small quantities of these articles in containers of 100 ml., but they must be carried in a transparent re-sealable plastic bag, and whose maximum capacity does not exceed one liter.
  • In addition, these small containers must be placed loosely in the bag to facilitate their inspection by security personnel. Passengers must present these bags separately from their hand luggage at security control points.

Checked Baggage Allowance

  • As per Iberia Airlines checked baggage policy, each passenger is allowed to take checked luggage depending upon the destinations.
  • You are requested to not carry valuable items like money, jewels, electronics, portable computers, medications or business documents in checked luggage. If you ignore this notice, Iberia Airlines shall not be liable for any loss or damage.
  • Each passenger is allowed up to 50 lbs as checked baggage with a maximum dimension limit of 158 cm. The baggage allowance will entirely depend upon your cabin class and ticket type.
  • All the baggage over 50 lbs will be considered as excess baggage and will be subject to an excess baggage fee. Iberia doesn’t accept any baggage above 70 lbs, in general.
  • All checked baggage is personal and non-transferable; each passenger must check in their own item.

Iberia Airlines Additional Baggage Allowance

The Iberia Airlines baggage weight limit guidelines says that, If you need to take more baggage than the allowance included with your ticket, you can add up to 9 extra bags when you make your booking, either from Booking management or later on during online check-in.

Select the weight of your extra bag and only pay for what you need:

  • 33 lbs – If you are traveling with essentials only.
  • 50 lbs – The typical suitcase (some routes currently only allow this option).
  • 70 lbs – If you need to take more than usual.

If you take more baggage than your allowance and you have not previously added it on our website, we advise you to arrive at the airport before the recommended time.

Iberia Airlines Excess Baggage Allowance

As per Iberia Airlines baggage policy, there is a fixed rate payable whenever a bag exceeds 50 lbs but is less than the maximum 70 lbs permitted. The price only varies according to the destination.
